I’D LIKE TO VOLUNTEER – WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

We’re Looking For A Few Good People. The Freehold Township Independent Fire Company is constantly in search of new members to fill various positions within the department.

There is no experience necessary. All training, both in-house and external, is provided to you for free. New members will go through a probationary period during which they will be supervised and coached. New members transferring from another fire department will have a slightly different probationary phase. All equipment pertaining to the position applied for will be provided for free.

Minimum Age

Junior Firefighters can join at 16 years of age.

All other positions require a minimum age of 18 years.

 
Where do you fit in?

Structural Firefighter:

 
This person will actively participate in the handling of all emergencies that we are dispatched to. This person will complete the NJ Firefighter I course, the NJSP Hazardous Materials Awareness course, and the SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) training. This person will be responsible for the rescue of civilians and protection of property. This person will enter dangerous environments, including but not limited to burning/smoke-filled structures, gas-filled enclosures and water. This person will also perform vehicular rescue and the containment / clean-up of hazardous materials.

 
Non-Structural Firefighter:

 
This person will actively participate in the handling of all emergencies that we are dispatched to. This person will complete the NJ Firefighter I course and the Hazardous Materials Awareness course. This person will perform various functions to support the Structural Firefighters without entering a structure, including but not limited to the driving of emergency apparatus, pump / water supply operations, rehabilitation of exhausted firefighters, SCBA bottle exchanges and moving equipment / supplies (handtools, lights, generators, hoses, portable pumps, etc).

Junior Firefighter:

This position will actively aid the fire department and firefighters in many ways. Juniors can respond to certain calls but not all calls. Juniors are typically members of the community that seek to one day become a Structural Firefighter. This member must have parental consent to be able to join.
